Aboard the International Space Station, the dexterous humanoid robot called Robonaut was tested in earnest on Oct. 13, 2011, as Expedition 29 Commander Mike Fossum monitored the first ground-commanded movements of its arms and the initial testing of its vision system.
Robonaut, which was delivered to the station on space shuttle Discovery's STS-133 mission earlier this year, is expected to be used in the future to conduct a variety of tasks to test its ability to conduct robotic work in assisting the station crew members.
